gasification_flameGasification is a method of thermally treating waste material to generate heat and/or power.

The process converts organic matter into gases at high temperature (>700°C) using a controlled amount of oxygen. The resulting gases can be combusted to give heat and or power and is a form of renewable energy. The burning of the resulting gas is more efficient than combustion of the original organic matter.

Of significant is the use of this technology to gasify waste. The use of gasification to generated heat and power from leather waste was demonstrated successfully in a research project carried out at BLC Leather Technology Centre and commercial plants within the leather industry are now operational.
